An Indian Army officer-turned-civil servant, Vinay Vasishtha divides his time between his ancestral village in Rohtak (Haryana), where he’s deeply involved in Mission Education for the Disadvantaged Children through the school started by his grandfather, and New Delhi, where he lives to keep himself connected to political developments. Vasishtha had his education in Rohtak and hails from an extended family of freedom fighters, social reformers and civil servants. He left Indian Army in 1972 and joined the Civil Services from which he retired in 2005. His last assignment was as Secretary to Government of India in BIFR Department of Economic Affairs (Finance Ministry). During his career, he has held key administrative positions in Home Ministry,where he also held additional charges of Chairman of Shipping Corporation of India in Coal and Shipping sectors, has handled various departments in the finance ministry and has been on the board of several government and public sector enterprises. Widely travelled overseas, Vasishtha has kept himself involved in rural activities in his Rohtak district after retirement and he takes keen interest in empowering the farmers about the latest technology in agriculture and education for the girl child in male-dominated Haryana state.
