As a second generation civil servant, Sudhir Mittal is among country’s senior bureaucrats serving as Secretary to the Government of India. He belongs to Punjab cadre and has more than 35 years of administrative experience, both in the state and central governments in key leadership roles. He is a post-graduate in Indian History and had joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1978. As an administrator, he has handled key positions in the field of Land Revenue Management, Agriculture, Food & Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs, Finance, Planning & Program Implementation, Urban Development, Tourism, Energy, Environment and Youth Affairs. He is currently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Fertilisers. He has also attended training programs in India and overseas, including Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad), Institute of Public Enterprises (Hyderabad), and a diploma course in development & administration from United Kingdom. His expertise lies in finance, planning and program implementation and he takes a keen interest in Global Affairs. He is also a fellow of Institute of Defence Studies & Analysis.
