Ashwani Lohani is from the 1980 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers and currently posted as Chief Mechanical Engineer in Indian Railways. Besides, a qualified Chartered Mechanical Engineer, he also holds degrees in other allied disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers and the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. A Gold Medalist in Metallurgical engineering, his four degrees are a national record that feature in the Limca Book of Records 2007 edition. He’s also held important leadership positions like the Divisional Railway Manager of Delhi, Director of National Rail Museum. However, Lohani’s success in the tourism sector, both as Chairman & Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation and MD of Madhya Pradesh State Tourism, earned him the tag of successful turn-around managers in Indian government. For his contribution to tourism sector, he has been awarded the Life Time Achievement Award in Tourism in 2010 and also given Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Award “Icon of Change” in May 2010. His name also figures in a Guinness World Record in 1998 for reviving the vintage Fairy Queen Express back on tracks with the oldest working steam locomotive in the world.
